SULAT KAMAY STREET ART COMPETITION

Street artists and anti-asbestos activists will hold their “Asbestos Street Fighters” -- a street art competition focusing on the dangers of asbestos at our Sunvalley Covered Gym.

SULAT KAMAY SOUTH

May 28, 2011 (Saturday)
10am-4pm
Theme: Asbestos Kills People

Asbestos is a natural mineral popularly used in manufacturing and construction. The Institute for Occupational Health and Safety Development (IOHSAD), sponsors of the competition as part of the Asian Wall Lords 2011, said white asbestos is still being used in the Philippines amid being banned in other countries because of its deadly effects, including lung cancer and mesothelioma.

“We recognize the power and dynamism of this art form, which brings fresh and powerful messages, much appreciated by the young and old alike,” said Noel Colina, executive director of IOHSAD. “We intend to maximize the dynamism of street art to package the message that death via asbestos remains a threat lingering among the human population,” he added.

More than 40 teams are competing. Sunvalley is hosting the elimination round for the South sector. South winners will compete in Makati. The winning team will be sent to Taiwan to represent the Philippines at the Asian Wall Lords 2011.

Everyone is invited to come and see the competiton come to life. See you all there!
